This week--in addition to Leo T. S. Ching's academic monograph--we are focusing much more on literary fiction than on theory or history. I want you guys to look at the way in which these superficially very disperate phenomena can interact and intersect with one another (and with anime as well!) to help you gain a deeper understanding of what we in the biz call "interdisciplinarity".
By this class time on Thursday (29 January), I want you to have devised the requisite two/three questions regarding the Ching, Ellison, or Oe readings. Post them here, and remember to bring hard-copies of your responses to the text to class.
You guys did a pretty solid job with this last time around, and most of you came up with some pretty inspired questions aand reactions. Let's see if we can do the same thing this time too. Also, don't hesitate to frame your questions in terms of juxtaposing the literary/academic text against any of the anime we've seen heretofore. That might make for a pretty insightful comparison.
